On Wednesday 22/05/2019, at the amphitheater of the Patras PVTI, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Scientific Conference took place, a cooperative action of the Patras PVTI and the Society of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis Patients of Achaia.
At the beginning of the conference, the Director of Patras PVTI, Mr. Nikolaos Katsonis welcomed and thanked the guests and stressed the importance of connecting education with unions and entities for support and improvement of health in the city. He also stressed that the conference aims at raising awareness as well as creating a cooperative management culture for the problems of patients and for the potential support of healthcare structures for the specific disease through the PVTI healthcare specialties.
Mr. Konstantakis Christos, gastroenterologist, Assistant Registrar at the Agios Andreas General Hospital of Patras, Ms. Kolotourou Anna, nurse at the Agios Andreas General Hospital of Patras, and Ms. Partsalaki Ioanna, dietician, head of the Nutrition and Diet Department of the Regional General Hospital of Patras, “Panagia i Voithia” were the guest speakers.
The problems of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease concern several people worldwide as well as in our country. During the conference, the causes and the pathogenesis of the diseases, their differences, the age groups they involve and the way to treat the diseases were analyzed. The treatment interventions and dietary requirements of the patients were especially emphasized in, both during the outbreak and during the remission phase of the disease.
Ms. Karakasi Niki, president of the Society of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis of Achaia, and members of the society were present as well. Ms. Karakasi talked about the foundation and actions of the society, which is comprised of patients.
Learners of the Patras PVTI attended the conference, specifically learners of the Nurse Assistants of General Treatment specialty, Paramedic – Ambulance Crew specialty, Pharmacy Assistants specialty and Nursery School Assistants specialty. The conference was open to the public.
The organizing of the Scientific Conference was coordinated by Mr. Nikolaos Katsonis, Director of the Patras PVTI and Mr. Georgios Giotopoulos, Deputy Director in cooperation with the Society of Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. The coordination of the presentation was handled by Dr. Psiouri Georgia, educator of the Patras PVTI.
The advertisement and graphics were handled by the Graphics Design of Printed and Electronic Media specialty of the Patras PVTI and Ms. Apergi Olga, tenured educator of the specialty. The learners, accepting the challenge to create the printed material (poster and invitation) of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease event, which took place at the amphitheater of the school on 22/05/2019, presented their ideas in a short video after the conclusion of the speeches. The learners completed the individual or group projects in the frames of the Graphics Design II and Digital Process of Models courses, with the assistance of their educators Apergi Olga, Asimakopoulou Eleni and Vasilopoulou Stavroula.
The Director of the Patras PVTI Katsonis Nikolaos, coordinator of the event, chose learner’s Skarmoutsou Dimitra’s poster and invitation, which was printed and digitally distributed to the institute’s social media to advertise the event.
The Graphics Design of Printed and Electronic Media specialty is on its second semester and prepares the future professionals in the space of optical communication. The learners of the specialty are trained to design optical messages in order to work in the graphics design market. The Patras PVTI enables all the learners to showcase their graphics design skills and knowledge to the local society through developing an open culture as well as through various events it organizes while, at the same time, it urges them to present their own projects by empowering their communication with a wider audience.
