The event was successfully completed at Patras DIEK on Friday, December 14, 2018 in the multi-purpose hall, in the presence of official guests, 550 trainees and their trainers, as part of the 3rd European Vocational Training and Training (VET) Week.
The opening of the event was held by the Director of Patras DIEK, Nikolaos Katsonis, who referred to the vision and strategy that will be implemented over the next three years with the aim of making the Institute outward-looking and creating effective collaborations with local authorities, companies and educational institutions of tertiary education.
Subsequently, the floor was given to the first Deputy Director, George Giotopoulos, who made reference to the innovations of DIEK for this year. In particular, he laid emphasis on the cooperation with Thermi DIEK on the implementation of European eTwinning programs of partnership using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as well as student mobility of DIEK to Portugal, which was completed on 17/12/2018. There will also be mobility to Córdoba, Spain, at the end of January, as it was mentioned. Deputy Director II, Giannis Papathanassiou, stressed the importance of DIEK institutes as providers of initial vocational training and underlined that, through this event, the actions between trainers and trainees will be known on the one hand, and on the other hand, the learning outcomes gained within IEK will come into view.
The first speech to be delivered was by the specialty “Technician of Tourist Units and Hosting Businesses.” The trainees of this sector, Tsiantis Chariklia and Tsagaratos Nikolitsa, presented the modern trends in tourism and tourism development in Western Greece, under the guidance of their trainer, Manika Vasiliki.
Then, the trainer Makri Vasiliki and the students Drosopanayioti Maria and Spinou Panagiota delivered a speech entitled “the English language as a tool for communication and development in the tourist industry of the region of Western Greece.”
The workshop continued with the presentation of Accusonus, a high-tech startup company based in Patras. The company has recently entered into an agreement with Adobe by granting it a license for technology that it has patented and will be integrated into its new services.
The speaker Kokkinis Elias explained to the students of the specialties of DIEK “IT developer (multimedia / web designer -developer / video games” and “Graphic design and electronic media design” how they could turn professionally to this new area which is concerned with the production of music and the mechanical learning for sound repair as well as the new design of logos and graphics to cover these innovations in sound and its wider context.
Afterwards, Kokοi Sofia of the specialty “Nursery/Childcare Assistant” talked about the prospects and the value of this profession in conditions of economic and demographic crisis. Psarouli Sophia of the specialty “Nursing Assistant of General Nursing” presented the social mission of the “white angels” and their contribution to the patient – fellow man.
The First Deputy Director of DIEK, George Giotopoulos, presented the advantages for the trainees when participating in the Erasmus + European Program and the experience they can gain from apprenticeship in companies corresponding to their specialty abroad. The benefits are quite important, as they can acquire new skills in their specialty and become part of the European professional experience by means of the knowledge of at least one foreign language (English).
Then, a theatrical event took place touching on “Family Relations”, in which students of the specialty “Theater and Cinematography” participated, under the guidance of their instructor, Thanasoula Andrea. “Music and dance interactions – Dancing VIDEO ART DANCE” were also presented by students of the Department of Applied Dance Arts with their instructor, Angeliki Athanasopoulou.
The trainer Vasilopoulou Sotiria and the student representative of the specialty “Bakery – Pastry Technician”, Vrettos Theodoros, presented the preparation of innovative pastries with stevia and Greek saffron from Kozani.
Olga Aperghe, trainer of the specialty “Graphic Design and Digital Media Design” talked about the importance of portfolio in graphic design, while Mike Maria, a graduate student of Patras DIEK, who is currently working as a graphic designer also made a contribution.
Then, the trainers, Mitropoulou Ourania, Fatourou Aikaterini and Xoulei Martha, in unison with the trainees of the specialty “Aesthetic Art and Make-up Technician”, Avramopoulou Gerasimina, Zotou Elena, Dalapa Ioanna and Basta Isabella – Georgia, made a presentation entitled “Organic Cosmetics”.
The specialty “Pharmacy Assistant” was represented by two groups of trainers. In the first group, led by Dr. Kyriakos Bourika, professor of EAP and scientific associate Dr. Evangelos Giannakopoulos, a presentation of “Biomass Soap Preparation” was made. The students Bairaktari Joseph and Kritikou Eleni participated in the presentation. In the follow-up group of trainers, Voudouri Andriana and Athanasopoulos Dimitris presented the “preparation of cosmetic body cream”.
The specialty of “Journalism, Editors and Reporters” followed, with the trainer Bourdounis Evangelos, who presented the “Promotion and projection of the old and new city of Patras with the aid of historical photographic archives and modern photographic recordings”. The trainees who participated were Argyropoulou Konstantina, Koutoulas Asimakis, Gianetsos Dimitris, Gatomatis Angelos-Antonis, Vallianos Dimitris, Diamanti Genovefa, Lagis Anestis, Papakosta Eleftheria, Stratodimou Vasiliki and Psilogeorgopoulou Angeliki.
Finally, the closing presentation was made by the specialty “Nutrition and Dietetics officer”, where the trainer Plakoula Eva and the trainees Uzika Gavriella and Konidari Maria stressed the Nutritional Value of Stevia and Greek saffron from Kozani.
The Public Vocational Training Institute of Patras organised 3 different events in order to emphasize how VET and Innovation are concepts interrelated. On 14 December 2018, 550 students and about 50 trainers attended the central event presenting the different fields of vocational training.

On 20 December 2018 a workshop entitled “Incorporating Scientix in digital literacy of vocational training” was realised in order for the participants to understand how this platform can enhance their teaching methods and integrate different educational resources in an innovative way. On 21 December 2018 another workshop entitled “eTwinning in vocational training. Combining technical and digital skills” took place so as to demonstrate how the cooperation among different intitutes concerning VET can broaden our cognitive horizons in ways that we had never imagined before.
